rusty yamaha virago rebuild part 16 (its definately alive)
stone the crows, we have only gone and done it....well almost anyway...blew the budget by a fraction, but its turned out to be a lot of bike for less than £400 squids...........I have ridden it for a few miles and it seems lovely, a little tame compared to the bmw, but its not that kind of bike. very comfortable and easy to ride. Had a few issues getting it running properly, but a set of plugs has made a huge difference, it still backfires every now and then on overun (not sure if they do this anyway?) but it pulls well and idles nicely. couple of bits left to do, change one of the fuel pipes, check the fuel reserve system and then get an mot on it, as everything is standard (and working)...

Hello again, back so soon. managed to get a bit done over the weekend. wiring mostly plugged back in, and got the exhaust cleaned up and fitted. tried a lot of different ways to clean the exhaust but in the end went back to the old favorite wire wheel and buffer (although all of my wire wheels are getting seriously worn out. still looking pretty good, I recon the next bit will be getting it sta...

Good afternoon then everybody, the last 2 videos were actually done quite a while ago, however I have just fitted the front brake lever and bled the brake through, so this is the current state of the bike at this moment in time. As you will see the budget is pretty well done now, however lets not worry about that until we need to spend any more money. I aim to get the loom and light back on it ...

Hello all, sorry for the delay with this, I did most of this bloody ages ago but it has taken a bit of a back seat for a while, however I'm going to force myself to do some over this weekend and hopefully get back into the groove with it. There is another video to come (part 13) I just have to edit it. So...this one....had a go at cleaning the engine casings and footpegs, turned out pretty good...

this video then is on cleaning of the headstock. I have been getting on with a few other bits at the same time.....next stop engine.....looking pretty chrometastic at the minute, and dare I say it 'a bit chopper' however, early days yet, and plenty of time to go. I have tried to embed some links to some of the stuff I'm using in the video, however its been a right pain, and I cannot seem to get...

rear end is looking ok, so moving on to the front end now, figured this would be the best thing to do as then we will have it on its wheels and that should make it a lot easier for everything else. Removing the lights, clocks, bars forks headstock.....well pretty much everything from the front end, and then we can access it all and see what we can do to smarten it up a little. lost a load of videos here, however you can see where we are heading with this one. its starting to take shape. I did say in the video (although you wont hear it) it looks like a million dollars, in hindsight, it looks more like 100 quid, but its a lot better than where we started and I am very pleased with it so far, look out for the engine casing, I couldn't help myself, although I think we m...

Yes you got the title right, cleaning one footpeg! everybody went out tonight and I couldn't be bothered to spend too much time on the bike, so decided to sit in front of the telly watching a film (interstellar...fantastic), and make a video. you can tell I had a little too much time on my hands with this one. excuse the music, it was just the right length and everybody needs a little culture e...

I was planning to use cling wrap, douse it in sprayfoam then carve away untill yah achieve the desired shape, cover it in fibre glass, supports/mounts can be built afterwards I was thinking or make ribs with some more fibreglass for a lighter end product. Anyone taken a similar approach and have any warning or tips n tricks?

Good Morning, Thanks for the comment, however, I am afraid I dont have much. My dad passed away back in 2018, and since then nothing has happened to it. the Loco is exactly as it was when we put it back together (there was a video on here). Every now and then we do a bit of track maintenance, but since the lockdowns and the onset of this terrible virus nobody has been to my mums on mass, and nobody has used any of it, although I did sort out the track in January, and me and my mum sent my dad around it just once on his birthday on the red electric train (which was very emotional but lovely at the same time). I look at the loco everytime I am aver there, and think that one day I may take it on, although my standard of engineering is way off of what my dad could do. It is where I go (and probably all of us) to chat with my dad and so the time is not right to move it and start tinkering with it. One day I think I will have a go at finishing it off, but don't hold your breath, there is probably a decade of work for me there, and I am not ready for it yet......
